Middle School Hurricane Squads Begin Basketball Season this Week

The Jasper County Middle School basketball squads began the 2019-2020 season with the boy’s squad traveling to Henderson Middle School last Saturday for a preseason scrimmage.

The young boys, led by returning head coach Keldrick Davis and assistant coach Yelberton Frazier, are looking to defend their Piedmont Athletic Conference championship title earned last year following an undefeated regular season.

This year’s squad includes (#2) DeNiland Head, (#3) Jamarkus Thomas, (#4) Kenyan Davis, (#5) Dwarka Byrce Davis, (#10) Dylon Connor, (#11) Randy Williams, (#12) Kemarion Thomas, (#14) Kyle Levester, (#15) Malik Epps, (#20) Kaidon Whidby, (#21) Tom Schilling, (#22) De’Marion Thomas, (#23) Elijah Terrell, (#24) Jay Vinson, and (#25) Bryan Ridley. Team managers are Aidon King, Brandon Ridley, and Chevy Sands.

The Canes defeated Henderson Middle 43-13. Scorers for that game were Kaidon Whidby with 13 points; Kemarion Thomas, 10; De’Niland Head, six; Bryce Jackson, five; Randy Williams, four; Malik Epps and Elijah Terrell, two each; and JaMarkus Thomas, one.

“I hope we go out and win whenever we play but I just want my boys to play hard the entire game,” said Coach Davis. “I want them to work to get better every practice and game, stay humble, keep God first, and keep the brotherhood that we are building,” he concluded.

The middle school Lady Canes will be coached by former Lady Cane standout Tracie Glawson who coached the varsity squad last season.

The middle school squads were to travel to Loganville Middle School on Wednesday for their first official game of the season while traveling to Putnam tomorrow, Nov. 22 for a 4:30 p.m. tip off.
