Gail Harrell Is Elected Monticello Mayor Pro-tem

Gail Harrell handily defeated Bobby Jacobs in the election for Monticello Mayor Pro-tem held Tuesday.

Mrs. Harrell received 201 votes or 62.04 percent to Mr. Jacobs’ 123 votes or 37.96 percent.

Some 1,731 persons are registered to vote in Monticello and only 328 voted in the three weeks of early voting and Tuesday combined for a voter turnout of 18.95 percent.

Councilwoman Cynthia Miller, who ran unopposed, received 116 votes, and Councilwoman Jenny Murphy, also unopposed, received 153 votes.

Monticello Mayor Pro-tem Stone Workman did not seek re-election. Mrs. Harrell will take office in January.

Monticello’s elections are staggered so the other council persons and mayor will run for re-election in two years.
