Canes Defeat the Leopards 28-0

Three rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown took the Canes to victory Friday night.

The rushing touchdowns, one by Jaylon Mitchell and two by Mario Greene, and the receiving touchdown by Mac Barton gave the Canes the 28-0 win against the Banks County Leopards in a region game played in Homer.

The Canes kicked off their victory early in the first quarter with a pair of rushing touchdowns and two good extra points. The first touchdown came in the beginning minutes. The second touchdown ended the first quarter.

With no score in the second quarter for either team, halftime found the score 14-0 in favor of the Canes.

Third quarter beginning action had the Canes in the end zone with their third rushing touchdown, making the score 20-0. A good extra point put the Canes on the board for 21 at the end of the quarter.

With a fourth quarter passing touchdown to Barton, and a fourth extra point through the goal post by Samuel Nunez, the win went to the Canes.

Offensively, the Canes quarterback, Keyshawn Ammons had five completed passes out of 13 attempts for 120 yards. Greene led the pack in rushing for 203 yards, averaging 10.7 yards per carry with his longest run at 56 yards. Mitchell rushed for 106 yards and Ammons rushed for 50.

Greene, Barton, Matt Cain, Graeme Williams, Jacarian Greer and Ardarius Benton each had one reception with Barton’s reception resulting in a touchdown.

Rounding out the points for the Canes, kicker Nunez went four for four on extra points helping the Canes’ cause.

Defensive stats were unavailable at press time.

The Hurricanes (2-7) will attempt to advance their record as they face Social Circle (2-7) at home on Friday, Nov. 8 in a AA Region 8 bout that is also Senior Night for the Canes. It is the last regular season game for the Canes. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
