Monticello High School Homecoming Festivities

Alicia Tripp was crowned Homecoming Queen and Kalyn McMichael was crowned Miss Hurricane at the annual homecoming festivities Friday evening for Jasper County High School. Emily Cavender was named first runner-up. The queens were crowned by last year’s homecoming queen and Miss Hurricane Kerri Bonner and MacKenzie Tripp, respectively.
Members of the court were (left to right) Ashton Mooney, Aubrey Crowe, Julia Proctor, Ella Mercer, Emma Davis, Kalyn McMichael, Alicia Tripp, Emily Cavender, Nykeria Greene, Bailey Jenkins, Allie Jones, Briana Dekle, Caela Cook, Ashlyn Rogers and Charleigh Dotson.
Court members were elected by their individual grade level classes. The homecoming queen was elected by popular vote of the entire student body. Most clubs and athletic groups nominated girls for Miss Hurricane, then Miss McMichael was chosen as 2019 Miss Hurricane by the class officers and representatives.
Tyler Wages was crowned “Mr. JCHS” by Miss McMichael during the pep rally on Thursday afternoon, after competing in the pageant on Wednesday.
As part of homecoming spirit week, each grade level competed for “the most spirited class” by participating in various dress-up days and contests. The senior class ultimately won the overall competition.
“Overall this was a great week for us at JCHS,” said principal Buddy Cain. “The students showed spirit each day by dressing appropriately for the dress-up days, and then that spirit and pride carried over into the homecoming ceremony Friday night. I’m so proud of our student body.”
The students culminated the Spirit Week with a homecoming dance Saturday evening. Homecoming coordinator Mrs. Johnnie Sue Moore expressed appreciation to the students, teachers, parents and community people who helped make this year’s homecoming a success.
