Lady Hurricanes Conclude Post Season Action
The 2019-2020 season for the Lady Canes has come to an end. In a season that saw hard losses, exciting wins and improvement and growth by the Lady Canes, they finished 7-17 for the year.
Last Thursday, the Lady Canes’ run in the state tournament came to an end with a double header loss in Hazelhurst against Jeff Davis.
The second game of the double header was a close one but the Lady Canes were on the losing end. With only one hit and zero runs, they fell 2-0 to Jeff Davis. Strong pitching by pitcher Bailey Jenkins was not enough. Jenkins, taking the loss for the team, went seven innings, surrendering two runs on seven hits and striking out one.
The Lady Canes saw only one hit during the game, a single in the first inning by first baseman Kate Robinson. Jeff Davis managed two runs in the top of the second, providing the only runs of the game.
The first game of the double header also found the Lady Canes in the losing column 5-1. Jenkins was the losing pitcher, going six innings, striking out three, walking one, and allowing five runs on nine hits.
Starting off with one run in the first inning after a single by Jasmine Stone, a ground out by Avery Barton and a wild pitch that scored Stone, the Lady Canes were unable to score again.
Jeff Davis managed one run in the first and two runs each in the fifth and sixth innings for the win.
The Lady Canes’ bats were swinging with six hits by the team that included hits by Stone, Robinson, Jenkins and Treauna Jacobs. Stone topped the hits, going three for four at the plate. Robinson had the lone RBI and Stone scored the only run for the Lady Canes.
This was my first season attending the Lady Canes’ games. I was impressed by their teamwork, improvement over the season, and willingness to keep fighting each inning of each game.
