JCHS Celebrates Homecoming

A new homecoming queen and Miss Hurricane will be crowned Friday during halftime of the Monticello Hurricanes’ game against Oglethorpe at Rose Bowl Field.

Jasper County High School has been celebrating homecoming all week with various activities being held every day as grade level students compete against each other.

The annual homecoming parade featuring the homecoming court, floats for the grade levels and clubs, and the Marching Hurricanes will be held today, Oct. 17, beginning at 6 p.m. The parade will move from Thomas Persons Hall down Connor, turn left onto West Washington and move onto the square, turn left onto Mill, left onto East Greene and back to Thomas Persons Hall by way of West Greene and College.

Immediately following the parade will be the annual Powder Puff Game featuring the freshman/senior team vs. the sophomore/junior team. Admission to the game will be $2 per person (second grade and older). The junior class will sponsor a concession stand at the game featuring Chick-Fil-A sandwiches and Little Caesar’s pizza.

Part of the grade-level competition includes a canned food collection to benefit the Jasper County Community Food Bank. Donations for the food bank are also being accepted at JCHS.

The homecoming week will culminate Saturday with the annual homecoming dance at the school from 7 to 11 p.m.

Members of the 2019 homecoming court include seniors Emily Rose Cavender, Nykeria Greene, Ashton Mooney, Caela Cook, and Alicia Tripp; juniors Bailey Jenkins, Allie Jones, Ella Mercer, and Emma Davis; sophomores Briana Dekle, Julia Proctor and Aubrey Crowe; and freshmen Ashlyn Rogers and Charleigh Dotson. The 2019 Miss Hurricane is Kalyn McMichael.
