Smithsonian Session Set Sunday

The Smithsonian’s traveling exhibition, Crossroads: Changes in Rural America exhibition will be at the Monticello-Jasper County Chamber of Commerce from December 7, 2019, until January 11, 2020. In conjuntion with the exhibit, a collection of stories from our community will be included in the exhibit using the mobile application, Flipgrid.

A drop-in community Flipgrid session will be held this Sunday, Sept. 29 in the Fellowship Hall at the Monticello Presbyterian Church from noon until 3 p.m. Assistance will be provided to people to help download the application on their phone and record their stories.

The community is invited to attend and record personal memories and stories of living in this community, as well as the answers to the following questions:

•What brought you and your family to Monticello/Jasper County?

•What makes you stay here?

•What three things would you miss if you had to leave?

•What makes Monticello/Jasper County unique?

•What are the challenges of living in a rural community?

•What place is special to you in Monticello/Jasper County?

•What does “rural” mean to you?

•If you could make one change for good, what would it be?

•Is our community at a crossroads?

•What is Monticello/Jasper County’s future?

•What do we need here that we don’t have?

•Tell your favorite stories

•Tell us about your business or home industry.

•Upload a video of your favorite place.
