Kenneth Ellis Pope
Kenneth Ellis Pope, age 72, passed away Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, at The Medical Center, Navicent Health in Macon.
Kenneth E. Pope was a lifelong resident of Jasper County. His parents were the late Kerby Compton Pope, Jr. and Thelma Grace Wood Pope. He was a dedicated and active member of the Monticello First United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Methodist Men’s Club and sang in the choir.
He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict as a reservist and was honorably discharged in 1970. Kenneth retired in 2006 as Construction Inspector for the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District at Buford Dam on Lake Lanier after more than 21 years of combined service for the United States Government.
Kenneth will be remembered as a dedicated father and friend who went out of his way to help others.
He is survived by his son, Hunter E. Pope of Monticello; step-daughter, Olivia Thomason of Monticello; granddaughter, Ella Grace Atkinson; brother, Charles K (Sandra) Pope of Cleveland; aunt, Doll Pope of Monticello; and nieces and nephews, Evelyn Pope, Jacob Pope, C. Kerby Pope, Jr., Kelli Pope, Peyton Pope and Kyle Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019, at the Monticello First United Methodist Church. Interment will be held in West View Cemetery. Dr. John Brown will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M., Saturday, September 14, 2019, at Jordan Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Tom Tillman, Scotty Dumas, Charles Brock, Johnny Strother, Brad Mercer and Boyce Rutherford.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to Monticello First United Methodist Church, 651 College Street, Monticello, Ga. 31064.
Jordan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
