Gail Harrell Seeks Mayor Pro-tem Post

GAIL HARRELL

“My name is Gail Elaine Harrell and I am running for the office of Mayor Pro Tem on the Monticello City Council. In seeking this elected office, I would very much like to introduce myself giving readers an idea of who I am and what values I stand for.

“I was born and bred in Lancaster, Penn., but was transferred to Georgia for my work insuring emergency services, municipalities and counties in 1991. In 2001 I made a conscious move to Jasper County. I was familiar with many people in the fire service here and had always wanted to own an historic home, so I have lived on Hillsboro Street for 18 years. In 2006 I married my husband Walter Harrell.

“My 50 some years in business and management, I believe gives me a wealth of knowledge dealing with all types of situations and a diversity of people. As for my interaction within Jasper County, I am a graduate of Leadership Jasper, have served on the Board of the Jasper County Historical Foundation, codirected Musical Theater Camp for four years; am an elder in Monticello Presbyterian Church, and sing in the choir.

“I believe all of the residents of Monticello deserve a voice, and it would be my privilege to bring that voice to City Council. My platform is simple: I am here to serve all residents of the city; encourage community involvement; cooperate with all bodies of government; support and participate in a clean and healthy environment for Monticello.”

Mrs. Harrell is planning to host two community Meet & Greet events next month. The first is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 12 at West View Park in Monticello from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The community is invited to come out and meet the candidate while enjoying hot dogs and drinks. The second event will be announced at a later date. Following some research of local history, Mrs. Harrell learned that, if elected, she would be the first woman Mayor Pro Tem to serve the city since the 1970s.

“This is an important election, and I hope to earn your vote at the polls on November 5, 2019. Feel free to contact me via email at ges6464@gmail.com to discuss any community issues that may be of concern to you.”
