Canes Fall After Lightning Delay

In their second lightning delayed game this season, the Hurricanes had to reschedule Friday night’s game and make a second trip to North Cobb Christian on Saturday to play. The Canes played their heart out but fell short, 28-21.

Led by sophomore quarterback Keyshawn Ammons, the Canes racked up 303 rushing yards and 93 passing yards for a total of 396 offensive yards. The offense carried the ball 35 times for an average of 8.7 yards per carry. All three touchdowns were rushing touchdowns, two carried in by Ammons and one by Jaylon Mitchell. 93 passing yards came from six completions out of ten attempts for an average of 15.5 yards, the longest completion to receiver Graeme Williams for 35 yards.

Coach Rydell Jackson described his team as “playing with their hearts out” and their play was “filled with heart and soul.” He added, “the game Saturday night was a team effort. I’m proud of them as a team and I can’t single out one player over another. ”

Ammons gave a solid performance with 158 total offensive yards, 93 passing yards and 65 rushing yards. Jaylon Mitchell continued his strong offensive play with 138 rushing yards, scoring one touchdown. Mario Greene and Williams remained strong offensive contributors offering 108 and 85 total offensive yards respectively.

Special teams punter Mac Barton kicked four punts for 138 yards for an average of 34.5 yards per punt with his longest punt 43 yards. Williams had one kick off return for ten yards and Samue

Stepping up for the defense, Jaylon Mitchell and Jackson Taylor each had three solo tackles and four assists, Greene and Jacarion Grier had four solo tackles and two assists a piece, Mac Barton had two solos and four assists and Jordan Mitchell and Williams each contributed two solo tackles and one pass defended.

As for their upcoming game against Union County, Coach Jackson shared, “we will have to practice hard to get this win. Union County will spread us out and we will need to be disciplined enough to stay in our areas of offense and defense. We will need to keep building and practicing hard.”

Tomorrow’s game, September 20, is an away conference contest in Blairsville.
