Bernice Barron

A celebration of life for Bernice Barron was held September 1 at St. James A.M.E. Church in Monticello. Reginald E. Jacobs, Sr. is pastor, Bishop Joe Ridley officiated.Burial was in South View Cemetery.

Life began for Bernice Barron on January 30, 1938 in Jasper County to the late Ben and Minnie Barron. His spiritual life continues in heaven. He loved and married Gertie Sue Barron and to this union 10 children were born. He was a member of Cross Road C.M.E. Church where he served as a deacon and choir member.

Mr. Barron worked at Feldspar for 40 years. He loved playing checkers with his friends, cooking, singing, hunting, and gardening. He was a loving father who loved to be around family and friends. He did not mind sharing and showing love to others.

His favorite song was “I’m Running for My Life.”

Bernice was preceded in death by his wife, Gertie Sue Barron and son, Ben Lamar Barron, along with siblings Lillie B. Fairclough and William Barron.

Survivors include children, Ricky Barron of Eatonton, Carmen Stone (John) of Monticello, Bernelle Barron (Calandra) of Forsyth, Valeria Pennamon (Carl) of Monticello; Marcia Ann Davis (late Eddie Carl) of Monticello, Donna Barron of Monticello, Bonnie Griffin (John) of Monticello, Michelle Fuller (Renard) of Macon, Monica Cash (Jeffrey) of Brunswick, and Thomas Barron (Keisha) of Covington. He also leaves two sisters, Vernice Battle and Jessie Ross, both of Monticello, 35 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, a god-daughter, Breneika Dennis and a host of relatives and friends.

Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
