First Week Of Contest Proves To Be Challenging
Well the 2019 Monticello News football contest has begun, and the fist week was full of challenges.
Bank of Monticello is the sponsor, as it is the first week every year.
And, even though there really is no way to cheat on the football contest, it’s always been an unwritten rule that the sponsors cannot win. However, they are allowed to get on the honor roll and so they play.
Well guess what, two employees with the bank scored the highest. Marshall Bunce correctly guessed the winner of 13 games listed. But he couldn’t win. The next closest player had 11 right, and was closest on the tie-breaker. That was Steve Jordan, a name synonymous with Bank of Monticello.
So…the winner is…Buddy Cain, the principal at Jasper County High School, home of the Monticello Hurricanes. Buddy correctly guessed the winners of 11 games listed and was second closest on the tie-breaker.
For his efforts, he won a $25 prize from the would-be winner Marshall Bunce at the Bank of Monticello.
This week, players have a chance again to win a $25 prize, this time from Tricia P. Armistead, C.P.A. Each person with 12 or more right…and the winner will get their names on the honor roll for the Grand Prize which is tickets for four to the Chick-Fil-A/Peach Bowl in Atlanta.
The contest is on page 11, along with complete rules. Just fill out the entry form, or write your answers n a separate piece of paper, and submit to The News office no later than 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6.
Entries may be brought to 247 West Washington Street, faxed to 706-468-6576, or e-mailed to info@themonticellonews.com. They can come any of those ways, but must reach us by 5 p.m. Friday.
