Lady Cougars Fall to Windsor
Piedmont Academy’s fast-pitch softball team once again had trouble with Windsor Academy last week.
After falling to the Lady Knights earlier in the season the Lady Cougars could not extract payback in the rematch falling 12-4 at home.
Windsor set the tone for the game with a three-run homer in the top of the first inning.
Averi Camp was in the pitcher’s circle for Piedmont as she went 1.1 innings allowing five runs on four hits. Abby Arnold and Emily McEwen both worked from the bullpen. Arnold pitched 1.2 innings while McEwen worked an inning.
Haley Ann Frank led the Lady Cougars at the plate going 3-for-3. Windsor compiled 11 hits in the contest.
Madison Johnson, Fleming Sealy and McEwen also helped lead the Piedmont offense. Johnson drove in three runs while Sealy had an RBI.
After Windsor took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning the Lady Cougars answered with two runs in the bottom half. The Lady Knights scored two more in the second, three in the fourth and four in the fifth.
Piedmont scored additional runs in the third and fifth innings. It was a tough day defensively for the Lady Cougars as they had several miscues in the field.
Coach Joe Johnson’s team bounced back with a hard-fought 5-3 win against John Milledge Academy on the road Tuesday. Johnson homered in the fourth inning for Piedmont as the senior continued her strong season.
The Lady Cougars would push three runs across in the top of the fifth inning before adding one more in the seventh. The Lady Trojans scored two runs in the second inning before adding one more in the sixth.
Arnold earned the win throwing 111 total pitches with 69 being strikes. She also had one strikeout.
Maddie Waddleton and Sealy also contributed offensively. Johnson finished the day 3-for-4 including a homer and double.
