Mrs. Ollie Rozzie Davis-Robinson
Mrs. Ollie Rozzie Davis-Robinson was born to the late Jessie Lee Wilson-Davis and John Thomas Davis on October 17, 1922, in Monticello. She departed this life on Saturday, August 10, 2019.
She joined Shady Grove Baptist Church of Shady Dale at an early age, and was an active member until her death. One of her favorite things to do was caring for children. Other hobbies included cooking, gardening, sewing, and attention to her family. In her earlier years, she made every outfit her children wore. She enjoyed going to church with her husband and children. She was the matriarch of her family and her nieces, nephews and a host of others often leaned on her for support and guidance.
Her formal education was in Morgan County . Ollie was a sharecropper alongside her husband when they were young. For over 40 years, she was a dedicated and faithful employee at Jasper Memorial Hospital. Her commitment was evident in that she remained employed there until the age of 80. Mrs. Robinson was an active member of the Jasper County senior citizens’ center for 24 years, where she participated in many activities. She was crowned queen of the senior center during the 2018 Deer Festival and proudly waved as she went by on her float.
Ollie married Charlie Robins on August 2, 1941. They were married for 67 years until Charlie’s death. She was full of wisdom and loved giving sage advice to others and was loved by many and will be missed. She was preceded in death by three daughters, Pauline Johnson, Jessie Robinson and Shirley Robinson; seven brothers, Georgia (Lois) Davis, Leon (Ella Pearl) Davis, Leonard Davis, Reo (Genevieve) Davis, Gene (Marilyn) Davis, Richard Davis, and John Thomas (Margaret) Davis. Ollie leaves to cherish her memories, son, Gregory (Sharon) Robinson; daughters, Susie Thurman (Clifford deceased), Rosalyn Robinson Byrd, and Terri Robinson, 17 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 35 great-great-grandchildren. A beloved sister, Annette Davis-Tripp (Joseph deceased; brother, Joe K. Davis (Lucille deceased). Also, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and the Shady Grove Baptist Church family.
A celebration of life for Mrs. Davis-Robinson was held August 15 at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Shady Dale. Rev. Frank Norwood, pastor, eulogist; Rev. Dr. Jimmy Horton officiating. Burial was in Shiloh Church Cemetery.
