Mayor Pro-tem Race Is Contested

Gail Harrell and Bobby Jacobs both qualified to run as Mayor Pro-tem in the City of Monticello election scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 5.

In addition, Jenny Hughes Murphy has qualified for re-election to the District 2, Post 2 seat on City Council, and Cynthia Miller qualified for re-election to the District 1, Post 2 seat.

Qualifying ended at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, so the only contested race will be that for Mayor Pro-tem, and incumbent Mayor Pro-tem Stone Workman did not seek re-election.

The city has staggered terms, so only two council seats and the Mayor Pro-tem are up for election this year.
