Rains Dampen Rodeo Weekend

The nights were a little damp, and the day was a lot damp, but the rodeo went on as usual Friday and Saturday night in Shady Dale.

Some 250 competitiors, a record number, had signed up for the rodeo this year. The rodeo is typicallly award-wnning with good payouts, and a venue cowboys and cowgirls like to come to.

Rain held off much of the night Friday, and a respectable turnout of spectators was on hand to see the cowboys and cowgirls do their thing.

However Saturday dawned with rain, and it continued through most of the day, virtually raining out the Round-up Festival that coincides with the rodeo each year. It did rain out the usually mile-long rodeo parade.

However many of the 30 vendors who signed up came out and attempted to sell their wares, and there was a good selection of food. Face painting took place on the porch of the Depot, keeping those folks mostly dry. Unfortunately for others, there was a lot of rain.

Les Steele provided entertainment until the rain got so bad the equipment was getting wet, even under the tent.

Sgt. Kendra Garza was Grand Marshal for the parade, and Shady Dale Mayor Larry Champion presented her with a key to the city. Rodeo worker, a member of Walton Lodge No. 200 Rusty Bullard looks on.

Rodeo results were not posted late Tuesday. Those who are interested may find the results at the International Professional Rodeo Association (IPRA )website
