Joe Davis
Joe Davis, age 92, of Westminster, S.C., passed away Saturday, June 8, 2019, at Navicent Health Medical Center in Macon.
Joe Davis was born in Fair Play, S.C. to the late Junie Dean Richey Davis and Ruben Moss Davis. Joe, his brother, Jack and sister, Joy were the first set of triplets born in Oconee County, S. C.
Joe served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and after leaving the Navy, he joined the Air Force and served another four years. During his service with the Air Force, he met and married Bertha Stone and they have celebrated 67 years of marriage.
Living in Norcross, Joe worked for the Atlanta Gas Light Company for 25 years. After retirement, they moved to Westminster, S.C. in 1985. He was a member of the Earles Grove Baptist Church in Westminster.
Joe loved to garden, work in his yard, and mostly, loved spending time with family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Joe Stone Davis in 2004; and brothers and sister, Bryant C. Davis, Emmett L. Davis, Jack Davis, Fred M. Davis and Joy Davis Smith.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Vera Bertha “Bert” Stone Davis of Westminster, S.C.; sister, Deana “Deanie” Davis Hall of Duluth; sisters-in-law, Vera S. Davis, Wilma M. Davis, Mabel Bennett and Kate Brown; brother-in-law, Jack Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at 1 p.m. at the Monticello Baptist Church. Interment will be held in West View Cemetery. Revs. James Dyar and Kenny Owen will officiate.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bill Thaxton, Tim Thaxton, Wes Thompson, Forney Russ, Charles Stone and Richard Davis. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be his nephews.
The family will receive friends from noon until 1 p.m.., Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at the Monticello Baptist Church.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Monticello Baptist Church 334 W. Greene Street, Monticello, Ga. 31064; or Earles Grove Baptist Church 398 Cedar Lane Road, Westminster, S.C. 29693.
