MOVING DAY

This building which served as a doctor’s office on West Greene Street adjacent to Monticello Baptist Church for many years was hauled away to its new home Tuesday, bringing many people outdoors to watch the progress of the wide load as it went the “wrong way” across the Monticello Square…going straight from West Greene to East Greene. Traffic was snarled for some time. Only part of the building was moved Tuesday, and the remainder is scheduled to be moved later this week, weather permitting. The church purchased the building and the one adjacent to it—MeMe’s House—some time ago. The properties were dismantled and are being moved and the church will build on the property. The house movers out of Madison had to take signs down and put them back up after the house passed. There were no reports of any vehicles or buildings being hit. Once across the Square, the house continued on its journey, not impeding traffic nearly as much once it got off the Square. More photos, p. 8 of this week’s paper.
