New Coaches Set To Work with Hurricane Sports
With the final days of the current school year already at hand planning is already in full swing for the upcoming 2019-2020 session.
For Monticello High School athletics there will be some familiar faces as well as some new ones in varsity sports.
Former Cane player and assistant coach Brady McMichael will be the new head baseball coach, athletic director Matt Martin said.
McMichael replaces Chris Jenkins who will still direct the Lady Canes fast-pitch softball program. The softball team had a successful season in 2018 advancing deep in the Class AA state playoffs.
The soccer programs will both have new leaders in 2019-2020. Lady Canes coach John Graybill is retiring while boys coach Robert Pulliam will be at Clarke Central High School in Athens.
Chris Pennamon will continue coaching the varsity boys basketball program as well as boys and girls track.
A search for a new varsity girls basketball coach is nearing completion as Martin said the school may have a new coach officially in place this week.
“We have interviewed several people for the girls basketball coaching job,” Martin said. “We have an offer out right now.”
A new cross country coach is also set to become official within a few days.
Andy Rewis will continue to coach wrestling while Matt Hyde will coach golf again next spring. Patty Cole will continue with her tennis coaching duties.
Rydell Jackson returns for his second season as varsity football coach. The former Canes player and MHS graduate recently completed spring football practice.
“The remaining hires just have a few details to iron out,” Martin said. “We are looking forward to the new athletic school year.”
