Mrs. Hattie Mae Gantt Thurman
Mrs. Hattie Mae Gantt Thurman was born August 28, 1946 to the parentage of Bobby Lee Gantt and Mrs. Hannah Mae Wimbush Gantt.
She died April 22, 2019.
A celebration of life was held Saturday, April 27, at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church in Monticello. Rev. Dr. Jimmy Horton, pastor, officiated. Burial was in New Community Cemetery in Hillsboro.
Mrs. Thurman received her education at the Jasper County Training School. At an early age, she attended worship service with the King Chapel Church family. Later in life, she worshipped at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church where she was a faithful member, and served as a sunrise usher. She also attended weekly bible study on Tuesdays.
Hattie was employed at Georgia Pacific Corp. until she retired with 35 years of service. After retirement, she devoted most of her time to being the “number-one” fan of her grandchildren. She could be seen at all their football and baseball games cheering them on. She also enjoyed spending time with her close friends and traveling.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Willie Charles Gantt and Albert Lee Gantt.
Hattie leaves to cherish precious memories, a son, Nathaniel (Natarcia) Williams, Jr. of Monticello; three grandchildren, Garrison Williams, Gavin Williams, and Graeme Williams; one beloved sister-in-law Mrs. Dollie Mae Gantt of Monticello; a devoted niece, Sheila Gantt Pounds (Jerome Jones); two nephews, Timothy (Gloria) Bland and Albert Antonio (Larraine) Gantt; a Godson, Quinton Watson; two special aunts, Bonnie Smith of Warner Robins and Lorrine Mohorne of Madison; a devoted friend and caregiver, Sara Ann Thomas, and a host of great-nephews, great-nieces, other relatives and caring friends.
Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
