Janet Gibson Lewis

Janet Gibson Lewis, age 73, of Monticello, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at her residence.

Janet Lewis was born in Enterprise, Ala., on March 2, 1946 and was raised in Summerville, Ga. Her parents were the late M. C. Gibson and Ruth Weekes Gibson.

She lived in Conyers before moving to Jasper County 20 years ago. Before retirement, she worked as a secretary at Emory University. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Milledgeville.

Janet enjoyed bowling and living in the country. She was a member of the VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary and loved helping with veterans’ causes.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph Rowell Lewis of Monticello; daughter, Janet “Jan” Leah Lewis of Monticello; brother, Mason Gibson of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; and sisters-in-law, Jean Spruill of Lilburn and Joan Cain of Commerce.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 27, 2019, at West View Cemetery. Dr. David Bernthal will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., Saturday, April 27, 2019, at Jordan Funeral Home.
