Ernest Michael Benton

A celebration of life for Ernest Michael Benton was held Wednesday, April 24, at New Bethel Grove Baptist Church in Monticello. Rev. Jerry Williams officiated; burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Benton was born August 25, 1960 to the late Charles Frank and Barbara Stone Benton. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Stone, and a sister, Juanita Stone.

He proclaimed his faith and attended New Bethel Grove Baptist Church in Monticello. He as educated in the Jasper County public school system. He was employed at Lake Lumber Company and William Brothers Lumber Company.

Ernest enjoyed dancing, playing cards (hi-lo), talking with the “boys” and spending quality time with his family. He could be found sitting on the porch his rocking chair. \\Survivors include three brothers, Charlie Lee Benton (Alberta) of Oxford, Ellis Lloyd Benton (Shirley) and Gerald Lynn Benton (Angela) all of Monticello, a sister, Martha Marie Benton of Monticello, and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Also, a special aunt, Mildred White and a special friend, Sherry “Red” Reynolds.

Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
