Mrs. Roberta Brown aka Ms. Lil Hun
A celebration of life for Roberta Brown, who died March 2, 2019, was held Saturday, March 9, at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church. Dr. Jimmy Horton officiated; burial was in South View Cemetery.
On July 3, 2915, the late Temp and Mattie Bland were blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Roberta Brown. This girl grew into a strong woman who became a pillar of strength to many families in Jasper County. In 1043, she was joined in holy matrimony to the late Rubin Brown. To his union six children were born.
She joined Springfield Missionary Baptist Church at a young age. Roberta was known as “Lil Hun” to all who knew her. She enjoyed dancing, cooking, and helping others. For more than 40 years, she was a licensed beautician. She also owned a flea market.
As a member of the Springfield Baptist Church family, she faithfully served on the Pastor’ Aide Board for many year. She will be remembered for her generosity to others and her sizzling press and curl.
Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her five brothers, Gardner Bland, Willie Joe Bland, Hanson Bland, James Bland,and Dan Bland; her three sisters, Mary Lois Jackson, Mattie Robinson and Sadie Clay; her two daughters Rubie Brown and Brenda Miller, and her adopted son, Calvin Jackson, Sr., of Jacksonville, Fla.
She leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters, Roberta Anderson, Loretta Lawreance (Bobby) and Cynthia Daivs of Monticello; a son, Eddie Brown (Marion) of Griffin, a son-in-law, Clarence Miller of Monticello; 19 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, a host of nices and nephews. Also, a devoted caregiver, Breneika Dennis.
