Joe K. Davis, Jr.
A celebration of life for Joe K. Davis, Jr., who died March 4, 2019, was held Monday, March 11, at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church in Monticello. Dr. Jimmy Horton officiated; burial was in South View Cemetery.
Mr. Davis was born July 2, 1970 to Joe K. Davis, Sr., and the late Lucile Bebee Davis, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were his wife, Mrs. Katrina Thurmond Davis, and a aunt, Mrs. Mamie Lou Lawrence.
Mr. Davis was known for his sweet, quiet, humble ways and most of all his smile…that could win anyone’s heart. As a young child, Joe joined Springfield Missionary Baptist Church. He worked at Georgia Pacific until it closed this past year. Mr. Davis was an all around active person. He played softball, enjoyed playing horse shoes, but most of all he loved spending time with his children, family and friends.
Survivors include his father, Deacon Joe K. Davis, Sr., a daughter, Shekenia Thurmond; a son, J’Quavious Thurmond; two sisters, Janice Davis and Warrdean Davis; a devoted mother-in-law, Martha Thurmond; six nephews, Quentin Manning, Antonio Dumas, Jonquvais Dumas, Larry Dumas, Roderick Dumas, and Derrick Dumas; a niece, Shretha Dumas; three aunts, Gwendolyn Catchings, Mrs. Ollie Robinson and Mrs. Annette Trip; a special great-niece, Naia Paschal, and a devoted Godbrother, William Kelly, also a host of great nephew, nieces, family, friends, and devoted in-laws.
Pallbearers for Mr. Davis’s service included D’Angelo Norris, Rodney Rooks, Andre Bostic, Dwight Byron, Donnis Davis, Eric Lawrence, Dexter Smith, and Lucious Oliver, Jr.
Flower ladies were members of the classes of 88 and 89.
