4-H Archery Team Competes in Perry
Twenty-two members of the Jasper County 4-H archery team competed at the 11th annual State Indoor 4-H Archery Challenge at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry. There were just over 800 4-H’ers participating from all across Georgia.
The Cloverleaf (fifth and sixth graders) compound and novice teams included Owen Boatwright, Kate Brooks, Andrew Cumbie, Evan Danes, Zach Garvin, Rebekah Hanson, Eli Nelson, Leigha Perkins, Kylee Schell, and Jamus Wingate. The shooters on the Junior (seventh and eighth graders) compound team who competed included Valdemarr Davis, Nina Matthews, Nolan McMichael, Jaxon Schell, T.J. White, and Cortney Wyman. Taylor Boyd, Haleigh Hammonds, Lauren Hicks, Luke Nelson, Abby Whittle, and Anna Whittle shot in the Senior (high school) compound division. They were accompanied by team coaches Susann Whittle, Scott Whittle, Gretchen Pruett, Jack Schell, Greg Hicks, and the 4-H’ers’ parents.
Jasper County had two 4-H’ers score in the top seven overall. Anna Whittle placed third in the Senior compound female division with her score of 300 along with having the best score among her Jasper team members. Abby Whittle placed sixth in the Senior compound female division with her score of 286. In the Junior compound female division, Jaxon Schell placed seventh with a 278.
For the Jasper County team, Leigha Perkins had the highest score among the Cloverleafs with a 250. Nolan McMichael was the top shooter in the Junior compound male division with a 263. In the Senior compound male division, Luke Nelson had the highest score from Jasper County with a 263.
The 4-H’ers are practicing weekly as they prepare for the state tournament to be held outdoors at Rock Eagle 4-H Center on Saturday, April 27
