MS Hurricanes Still Undefeated, Will Compete for PAC Title

The Jasper County Middle School Hurricanes are in pursuit of another Piedmont Athletic Conference (PAC) title this week as the Middle School Lady Canes have concluded their season.

The MMS boys, seeded #1 in the conference, earned a 45-17 victory over Greene Middle School, seeded #8, last week on Super Saturday held at Loganville Middle School. That win earned the squad a place in the semifinals that was to be played Wednesday against #4 seed Youth Middle. A win Wednesday takes the MMS Canes to the championship game on Saturday, Feb. 9 to play #3 Social Circle or #7 Morgan at 1:30 p.m. in Loganville.

The boys finished their regular season undefeated with another win over Greene Middle, 67-21, last Wednesday on Eighth Grade Night. Coach Keldrick Davis is extremely proud of his young team and the accomplishments they have made this season. Against Greene the coach noted that his squad had a career high statistic with 10 three-point shots made and held their opponent to 0 while scoring their first 20 points.

Last Wednesday Marcus Whitlock scored 14 points; Landon Bonner had 11 points; Ashton Pennamon, nine; Johnathan Barnes, seven; Cedrion Stone and Kaidon Whidby, six points each; Kemarian Thomas and Randy Williams, four points each; and Kyle Levester and Tom Schilling, three points each.

In their Super Saturday win, Coach Davis said that the team showed a willingness to share the ball and played a smothering defense.

Pennnamon scored 15 points; Bonner had 8; Whitlock, 6; Stone, 5; Thomas and Grier, four each; Whidby, two; and Barnes, one.

The MMS Lady Canes concluded their season last Saturday with a 32-18 loss to Putnam County. The young ladies finished the conference this season seeded eighth.
