Gene Douglas Power, Jr.
Gene Douglas Power, Jr., age 63, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2019, at Jasper Memorial Hospital.
Douglas Power was born in Fort Bragg, N.C. to the late Frances Lanette McElheney and Gene Douglas Power, Sr. He was a graduate of Forest Park High School in Forest Park, Ga.
Douglas was a gentle, happy person who loved his friends and family. He always had a ready smile. Whenever Luanne or Carol called him on the phone he always said, “Hello dahling (darling)”, and laughed. He loved Kathy Thomas like a second mother, and Charlie Lynch as another brother. He was up to date on all television shows and movies. He had a massive movie collection and watched for new ones at Walmart and yard sales.
Douglas enjoyed watching the UGA Bulldogs and was proud of his Bulldog gear, including shirts and hats. He enjoyed outings to go shopping, and enjoyed eating out. He had a phenomenal memory for names. If he ever met you and knew your name, he never forgot it. He read when he wasn’t watching television, and loved to visit the library. He enjoyed traveling, and enjoyed many trips to Helen. He enjoyed his days at Putnam-Jasper Support Services in Eatonton, and loved his favorite instructor, Charlotte Culbertson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Barry Power.
He was survived by his aunts and uncle, Carol McElheney of Monticello, James McElheney of Pigeon Forge, Tenn., and Luanne McElheney Wedd of Sautee; sisters and brother, Cheryl Power Thomas, Jackie Power Adams, and Chris Power of Stockbridge; and caregivers, Kathy Thomas, Charlie Lynch, and Ida Lou Minter of Monticello.
