MS Canes Undefeated & Ready for Playoffs
The Jasper County Middle School basketball Hurricanes were still undefeated heading into their last regular season game of the year on Wednesday and were preparing for the Super Saturday playoffs of the Piedmont Athletic Conference (PAC) on February 2 at Loganville Middle School in Loganville.
The Lady Canes, seeded #8 in the PAC, will play #1 seed Putnam County on Saturday beginning at 4:30 p.m. The Canes, seeded #1 in the PAC, will play the #8 seed at 5:30 p.m.
If the Lady Canes win on Saturday they could see action in the girls’ semifinals on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at an unknown time. Win or loss, the boys will play in the boys semifinals on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at an unknown time.
If either squad makes it to championship game, they would play Saturday, Feb. 9. All PAC playoff games will be hosted by Loganville Middle School.
The Canes squad routed Morgan County Middle School last week by a score of 72-29. Landon Bonner led the scoring with 18 points; Ashton Pennamon and Marcus Whitlock, followed closely with each adding 17 points; Kemarion Thomas had seven points; Thomas Schilling had six points; Kyle Levester, Jacarian Grier, and Kaidon Whidby, two points each; and Randy Williams, one point.
The boys squad also defeated Social Circle, 71-57. Whitlock had a season high with 29 points; Bonner added 14 points; Pennamon had 12 points; Grier had eight; Johnathan Barnes and Cedrion Stone, each had three; and Whidby had two.
