Lady Cougars Post Victories, Cougars Beat St. George
The Piedmont Academy varsity girls basketball team had a strong week with victories against St. George, Strong Rock and Furtah Prep.
In the 37-30 victory against St. George, Madison McCart and Maddie Waddleton both scored eight points to pace the Lady Cougars. Jayden Young and Hailey Hooper both finished with six points and Haley Ann Frank scored five points. Sydney Stroud and Gracie Hunt finished with two points each.
The Piedmont girls cruised by Solid Rock 54-14 on Jan. 24 on the road. McCart led a balanced scoring attack with 20 points while Hooper scored nine and Frank scored eight.
Also contributing were Stroud (six), Young (three), Hannah Tyler (two), Hunt (two), Waddleton (two) and Deacon Robinson (two).
The varsity girls also defeated Furtah Prep 51-21 on the road last Friday. McCart scored a game-high 16 points while Frank added nine and Hooper scored seven.
Lucy Tuggle and Haiden Crews both scored four points while Stroud, Young, Madison Johnson, Waddleton and Fleming Sealy each scored two. Hunt added a free throw.
The varsity boys defeated St. George 56-36 on Jan. 22 as Sam Wright scored 18 points. Bradley Greenwood added 11 points while Brock Greenwood finished with nine points. Ryan Holder and Tate Marks both scored seven points.
The Cougars fell 56-40 to Solid Rock on the road last Thursday. Wright finished as the top scorer for Piedmont with 12 points. Marks also finished in double figures with 10.
Bradley Greenwood scored nine points and Holder contributed four points. Brock Greenwood scored three and Clay Jones added two.
The Cougars dropped an 84-66 game to Furtah Prep in Acworth despite four players scoring in double figures. Wright led Piedmont with 21 points while Jones scored 13 and Holder and Marks finished with 12. Bradley Greenwood contributed eight points.
The Piedmont varsity teams will return to the court Friday against Furtah Prep in a rematch from last week at home beginning at 6 p.m. This will be Senior Night for the Cougars and Lady Cougars.
The games scheduled Tuesday of this week against Oak Mountain on the road have been rescheduled for Saturday. Games will be at 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. in Carrollton.
