Evelyn Juanita Martin Benton

Evelyn Juanita Martin Benton, age 94, of Monticello, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2019, at The Harbor in Eatonton, Georgia.

Evelyn Benton, born in Putnam County, was a lifelong resident of Jasper County. Her parents were the late Nathaniel Walker Martin and Mary Ida Dennis Martin. She was the last of twelve children.

Evelyn Benton was the wife of sixty-two years to the late James Cleveland “J.C.” Benton, and mother of three. She was a member of the Monticello Baptist Church, and was best known for sitting in the swing of her front porch on Hillsboro Street in Monticello.

She is survived by her children, James Martin (Janice) Benton of Silver Springs, Maryland, Larry Stephen (Robin) Benton of Eatonton, and Jan (Louie) Long of Eatonton; grandchildren, Sara (Matt) Jasinski, Matthew (Anne) Benton, Amanda (Jason) Eubanks, Joshua (Rachel) Benton, Drake (Courtney) Benton, Heather (Trevor) Hutchins, and Wesley Raney; twelve great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Hilda Benton of Gray; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 P.M., Monday, January 14, 2019, at Williams Payne Cemetery. Rev. Charles Roper will officiate.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jason Eubanks, Joshua Benton, Drake Benton, Matt Benton, Wesley Raney, and Trevor Hutchins.
