Lady Canes Finish Second in Holiday Tourney

The Jasper County High School varsity Lady Hurricanes finished in second place at the Mary Persons Holiday Classic basketball tournament held in Forsyth December 27-29.

In their first game last Thursday, the ladies defeated Therrell High School 56-35. On Friday, the ladies were again victorious defeating Crawford County 57-46 and in Saturday’s championship game the ladies fell 63-58 to AAAAA squad Locust Grove.

The Lady Canes were the only varsity squad in action over the holidays as regular season action will resume tomorrow, Jan. 4 when the team will host region opponent Putnam County in the middle school gymnasium. The newly renovated gym will be dedicated to the late Lester Davis, former Hurricane basketball coach and educator During that game, the school will also recognize the 1975 Hurricane State Championship squad which was led by Coach Davis and will honor Alumni Night. The junior varsity boys will begin at 4:30 p.m. with the varsity tipping off at 6 p.m.

On Saturday, Jan. 5, the teams will return to the high school gymnasium to host another region opponent Rabun County in a varsity only matchup beginning at 6 p.m. The Hurricanes will take their region action on the road to Oglethorpe County Tuesday, Jan. 8 to play the Patriots beginning with the JV boys at 4:30 p.m. and varsity at 6 p.m.
