Piedmont Boys Earn Two More Victories

Paced by a balanced scoring attack the Piedmont Academy varsity boys basketball team earned a 91-79 home win against Oak Mountain on Monday.

Tate Marks (21 points), Ryan Holder (16 points), Sam Wright (14 points) and Bradley Greenwood (12 points) helped pace the Cougars offensively. Piedmont jumped out to a 35-12 lead after the first quarter but visiting Oak Mountain continued to battle and even poured in a 27-point fourth quarter.

Cameron Mobley added seven key points for coach Will Johnson’s team while Clay Jones and Brock Greenwood both finished with six points. Caleb Coffey added four points while Payton Wallace contributed three.

Both teams scored in double digits in all four quarters.

Monday’s win followed a home loss to Solid Rock last Saturday. The Cougars fell 71-53 despite a 22-point effort by Wright.

Marks also finished in double figures with 10 points and Holder added nine. The game was close throughout the first half but Solid Rock outscored Piedmont by nine in the third quarter and by seven in the fourth.

Coffey added three points and Jones finished with two in the home contest.

Piedmont’s Lady Cougars fell to Oak Mountain on Monday 54-39. Madison McCart led the team with 13 points and Lucy Tuggle and Hailey Hooper both finished with eight.

The Lady Cougars jumped out to a slim one-point lead after the first quarter before Oak Mountain went on a 13-6 run in the second.

Haley Ann Frank scored five points for Piedmont with Jayden Young and Gracie Hunt both added two points.

The Lady Cougars rolled to a 60-11 win against Solid Rock last Saturday. McCart led a balanced scoring effort with 16 while Frank and Sydney Stroud both added eight.

Hooper scored six points and Hunt finished with four while Hannah Tyler and Mallory Kelly both added three. Maddie Waddleton, Deacon Robinson, Haiden Crews and Mattie Johnston each scored two.

In another home game Tuesday the Piedmont boys defeated Brentwood 59-43 as Bradley Greenwood scored 18 points and Holder and Wright both added 10. Marks finished with seven points while Jones scored five and Coffey scored four.

Mobley (three points) and Caden Clark (two points) also contributed offensively.

The Lady Cougars fell 45-35 to the Brentwood Lady Eagles. McCart led Piedmont with 13 points while Tuggle added seven. Hooper contributed five points while Hunt scored four.

The Piedmont Cougar Classic will be Friday and Saturday, Dec. 21-22 with both the Cougars and Lady Cougars competed along with teams from Creekside (McDonough), Social Circle and Notre Dame Academy.

The Lady Cougars will play Friday at 4 p.m. against Creekside with the boys teams from the schools matching up at 5:30 p.m.

The Notre Dame Academy girls will face Social Circle at 1 p.m. Friday with the boys teams from those schools competing at 2:30 p.m. Games will continue Saturday.
