Deer Festival Is November 3

ALEXA BARRAGAN

The annual Jasper County Deer Festival is set for Saturday, Nov. 3, and in preparation for the festival, the Deer Festival Pageant was held Sunday at Thomas Persons Hall.

Young Miss Alexa Barragan was named Little Miss Fawn, and Mackenzie Rae Phillips was first runner-up. The Deer Festival Queen will be announced at the festival. The candidates are McKenzie Ledford, Kinshaza Norris, and Claire Taylor.

Mekia Taylor, current reigning Queen and Callie Harrison, last year’s Little Miss Fawn presented the awards to the winners.

As part of the annual Deer Festival promotions, The Monticello News will publish a special section featuring more photos from the pageant, as well as photos from successful deer hunters, welcome ads from many of the businesses as well as ads highlighting Deer Festival events. It will include a list of vendors, and a map of the Square, as well as other information visitors can use.

The News prints extras of this section, and each runner/walker in the Deer Dash gets one as do the vendors, and any festival-goers who want one as they will be set out in conspicuous areas for pick up.

Those wanting to place an ad in the Deer Festival section must hurry—they will only be taken through tomorrow, Oct. 26.

We will gladly take successful hunters photos until the end of the day Monday, at which time we will finish up the section.

See the special section next week for more on the pageant too!
