Lady Canes Will Play Tuesday

The Monticello Lady Hurricanes varsity softball squad finished the 2018 regular season 15-5 overall and 7-0 in 8 AA region competition with the region tournament starting this week with the first two rounds of competition played Wednesday and today in Social Circle.

The Lady Canes won’t see action until Tuesday and Thursday, Oct. 2 & 4, when they serve as host for the final two rounds of region playoffs. As the top seed headed into region playoffs, the Lady Canes are assured a trip back to the state playoffs whether they win, lose or draw next week. Social Circle (5-1), Banks County (6-2), and Union County (4-3) round out the top four seeds in 8 AA as the tournament approaches with Elbert County (3-4), Oglethorpe County (2-5), Rabun County (1-5), and Putnam County (0-7) rounding out the region.

The first rounds of region were to be played Wednesday with the winners of the Social Circle/Putnam, Banks/Oglethorpe, and Union/Elbert matchups playing here next week for the double elimination part of the tournament. The four teams that play in the final two rounds will all qualify for the state tournament with the win/loss results determining their seeding for that tournament.

Head Coach Chris Jenkins said that the Lady Canes will play their first game of the region tournament Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 1 p.m. against an unknown opponent at this time. Games will also be played at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
