Lady Cougars Post Impressive Wins
Piedmont Academy’s fast-pitch softball team added two additional victories to its season total last week.
The Lady Cougars needed just three innings to take care of business against LaGrange Academy in a 15-0 win on September 6. Two days later Piedmont played a pair of games at Brentwood in Sandersville. Coach Colt Spivey’s team defeated the host Lady Eagles 7-1 before finishing in a 1-1 tie with Robert Toombs.
In the contest against LaGrange Academy the Lady Cougars set the tone early with six runs in the bottom of the first inning and nine more in the second. Piedmont compiled 15 hits in the game as compared to just three for visiting LaGrange Academy.
Maddie Morton and Hailey Hooper led the offensive onslaught with three hits each while Madison Johnson had two. Maddie Johnston, Cassidy Cook and Neely Bradford each drew walks.
Johnson drove in four runs with Hooper collecting three RBI and Deacon Robinson with two.
Morton recorded the win recorded seven of the nine outs by strikeout.
In Saturday’s game against Brentwood the Lady Cougars were once again impressive at the plate with 13 hits. Morton worked five innings in the pitcher’s circle with five strikeouts.
Johnson, Morton and Lucy Tuggle each had two hits while Hooper drew a walk. Morton drove in two runs while Johnson Bradford both had one RBI.
Piedmont scored three runs in the top of the first before adding one in the second, two more in the third and one final run in the fourth inning.
In the second game of the day for the Lady Cougars against Robert Toombs, both teams scored a run in the third inning. Bradford pitched seven strong innings allowing six hits while striking out seven.
Johnson and Haley Ann Frank both had two hits. Johnson also walked twice and drove in the lone run for Piedmont.
The Lady Cougars will host Flint River Academy today, Sept. 13 at 6 p.m. before hosting Gatewood Tuesday,
