Jimmie Lee ‘Jay’ Benton
A celebration of life for Jimmie Lee “Jay” Benton, who died September 1, 2018, was held Friday, Sept. 7, at New Bethel Grove Baptist Church in Monticello. Rev. Earl Favors officiated; burial was in New Bethel Grove Church Cemetery,.
Mr. Benton was born on September 22, 1952, to the late Grady Sr., and Lillie Mae Benton of Monticello. He joined New Bethel Grove Baptist Church at an early age. He worked at Bibb Manufacturing in Porterdale for more than 30 years. He also worked at The Trading Post in Monticello for many years.
On June 24, 1978, he joined in holy matrimony to the lovely Mrs. Lynn Allison. For 40 years, they shared their lives in raising three beautiful children.
Mr. Benton was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Ruby Benton-Nash, a brother, Charlie Frank Benton, and a grandson, Shiloh J. Allison.
To cherish his memories are his wife, Mrs. Lynn Allison-Benton of Monticello; son, Darryl. (Samala) Allison of Derby, KS, two daughters, Kaylar (Emory) Benton-Simmons of Covington, and Vonecia (Jerry, Jr.) Benton-Stone of Monticello; brother, Grady (Valerie) Benton, Jr. of Sparta; four sisters, Bertha Benton-Crawford of Monticello, Cassie (Tommie, Sr.) Benton-McDowell of Jackson, Virginia Benton of Monticello, and Mildred (Joseph) Benton-White of Monticello; four grandsons, Quindarion Sands, Seliem Allison, Jaylon Sands, and D’Angelo Simmons; two granddaughters, Omariana Benton and Verlacia Simmons, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
