Lady Hurricanes 3-0 in Region Competition

The Monticello Lady Hurricanes varsity softball squad is 3-0 in 8 AA region competition following the 7-1 defeat of the Elbert County Lady Blue Devils last Thursday.

“It was a well played game by both teams,” said Lady Canes Head Coach Chris Jenkins. “Their (Elbert) pitcher did a good job of keeping us off balance, and the teammade some good defensive plays behind her that prevented big innings.”

“We’re still not hitting the ball consistently up and down the order, hopefully we’ll get comfortable with the adjustments we’re trying to make before we play Banks on Thursday (today, Sept. 6). Should be a fun game, we’ll get their best shot after eliminating them in the state semis last October.”

The Elbert win takes the Lady Canes to 10-3 overall for the season as they will need to channel that momentum into today’s game on the road in Homer to face the Banks County Lady Leopards at 5:30 p.m.

As Coach Jenkins mentioned, their opponent might be looking for a little retribution from last Fall’s loss in the semifinals of the state playoffs. Banks is having a solid season with a 2-1 region record and 6-1 overall.

Next Tuesday, Sept. 11 the Lady Canes will host a stellar looking Social Circle squad who is also undefeated in the region at 2-0 and 6-4 overall. The game begins at 5:30 p.m.

The varsity squad will face a non-region opponent at Houston County Wednesday, Sept. 12 before hosting Rabun County in a region contest next Thursday, Sept. 13. Both games begin at 5:30 p.m.
