Lady Cougars Continue Their Winnings Ways

It was two more games and two more victories for the Piedmont Academy softball team last week.

The Lady Cougars defeated Class AAA John Milledge Academy 8-4 on Aug. 28 before winning a hard fought contest two days later 4-3 against Fullington Academy.

In the win against JMA, Piedmont was led offensively by Hailey Hooper who finished the game with four hits. Cassidy Cook added three hits. Hooper also drove in three runs and Neely Bradford had four RBI.

The Lady Cougars led 3-0 after the first three innings but John Milledge tied the score in the top of the fourth. The Lady Trojans took a 4-3 lead after pushing a run across in the top of the sixth inning but Piedmont responded with five runs in the bottom half of the inning.

In the home victory Piedmont had 13 hits as compared to five for John Milledge.

Bradford (two strikeouts) earned the win working in relief of Mattie Morton (five strikeouts.)

In last Thursday’s home game against Fullington, it would take an extra inning for the Lady Cougars to emerge victorious. The teams were tied 3-3 after seven inning. Fullington was unable to score in the top of the eight but Piedmont scored a run in the bottom half.

Madison Johnson led the offense with three hits. Bradford pitched all eight inning for the Lady Cougars and had two strikeouts.

Piedmont will return to action Saturday with a pair of games at Brentwood in Sandersville. The Lady Cougars, who are now 8-1 overall, will play Brentwood at 11 a.m. and Robert Toombs at 1 p.m.
