Several Are Sentenced In Superior Court
Former Jasper County Sheriff’s Office employee Michael Barrett wasn’t the only defendant sentenced to significant jail time by Judge Amanda Petty in Jasper Superior Court last week.
Mr. Barrett initially had 134 charges when he was arrested in 2017 including charges from violation of oath by public officer, theft by taking, possession of methamphetamine/cocaine/ controlled substance/schedule IV all with intent to distribute, and tampering with evidence. For the 94 charges that he was sentenced on, he could have received a maximum of 1,523 years with a five year minimum instead of the 50 years he received with 10 years to serve.
James Minnoia was sentenced to 20 years with 10 years to serve for trafficking methamphetamine and possession of a schedule IV controlled substance with intent to distribute. He was credited with time served since August 2016 and fined $2,000.
Christopher Fowler, Jr., sentenced to seven years with the first 180 days in Jasper County jail suspended upon entry into a long term in-patient substance abuse treatment program. He was charged with sale of methamphetamine and fined $1,500.
Sammy Graffe, sentenced to 12 months of probation for giving false information to a law enforcement officer. Fined $500.
Probation revocations include:
Sherry Braley, probation revoked to 60 days in Jasper County jail for changing her residence, failure to provide urine specimen for testing, and failure to pay court fines.
Jeremy Bearden, probation revoked to 121 days in Jasper County jail for positive drug test in May and failure to report to probation.
Garry Morgan, probation revoked to 98 days in Jasper County jail for new offense of possession of methamphetamine.
James Cates, probation revoked to 60 days in Jasper County jail for new offense in Newton County, testing positive for drugs, and failure to complete substance abuse evaluation.
Jonathan Martyne, probation revoked to 30 days in Jasper County jail for failure to report to probation office, failure to pay court fines, and failure to complete Community service.
Vashon Traylor, probation revoked to 30 days in Jasper County jail suspended upon completion of alcohol and drug evaluation for admitted drug use.
During the August 7 motion day session of Superior Court, Judge William Prior sentenced Kenneth Rickett to three years in confinement for burglary in the first degree.
Nicole Kraus, probation revoked to state penal system for two years for new offense of domestic battery in Florida for which he was convicted and failure to pay restitution.
Joseph Lanford, probation revoked to state penal system for new offense of possession of methamphetamine and theft by shoplifting in Newton County and several drug related charges in Butts County.
Lori Straka, probation revoked to 180 days in Jasper County jail suspended upon entry into a state probation detention center for 120-180 days for the new offense of driving under the influence and driving without a valid license in Jones County and testing positive for drugs.
Robin Motes, sentenced to enter and complete the abuse inpatient program Promise of Hope where she must remain 12 months or until competition of the program for failure to report to the Abba House.
