Charles F. Matthews

Charles F. Matthews, 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 23 at The Retreat in Monticello.

Charles was born April 16, 1933 in Norcross, to the late John and Clara Matthews. He was the youngest of five children. Charles married his sweetheart, Mary Matthews, on September 7, 1956; they were married almost 63 years.

Charles was a veteran of the United States Army where he served from 1952 until he was discharged from the Army Reserves in 1962. Later, he was self-employed for over 50 years until he semi-retired last year.

Charles loved spending time with his family, helping others and serving his church where he was a Deacon. He was a loving and caring person, devoted husband, father and friend. He was always thinking of others first.

Charles leaves to cherish his loving memory his wife Mary, his children Tim, Tony (Lynn), Terry (Laura), Tracy (Nicole); nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.

A memorial will be held at a later date, to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be given to Harmony Baptist Church at 120 Harmony Church Road; Eatonton, Ga 31024.
