Prep Continues for Piedmont’s New Season

In a little more than a month’s time the 2018 football season will be at hand for the Piedmont Academy Cougars.

For new head coach Mike Parris there is still plenty of work to do until that date, however.

“Things are going great,” Parris said of the preseason preparations by players. “We are going to keep working and keep going as hard as we can do to be ready for the new season.”

The Cougars will host Pinecrest Academy on Aug. 17 for a preseason scrimmage. The event is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.

Full contact practices will begin Aug. 1 for Piedmont. Currently the team has been working in shorts each Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

“There is always more and more to do as the season gets closer,” Parris said. “We are excited and the players are getting excited. That’s the main thing. You want the players to be eager for the new season and enjoy being on the field.”

The Cougars will open the 2018 season Aug. 24 at home against Monsignor Donovan. The following week Piedmont will play at Thomas Jefferson Academy in Louisville. Both regular season games in August will kick off at 8 p.m.

Piedmont will then host Westwood on Sept. 7 and Terrell on Sept. 14. The Cougars will be on the road against Southwest Georgia Sept. 21 before hosting Windsor for homecoming Sept. 28.

Parris will see his team travel to Crisp Academy Oct. 5 before venturing to Flint River Academy Oct. 12. Following a bye on Oct. 19, Piedmont travels to Dominion on Oct. 2 before hosting rival Gatewood Nov. 2.
