Mr. Willie Joe Driskell

A celebration of life for Willie Joe Driskell, who died July 9, 2018, was held Saturday, July 14, at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Dr. Jimmy Horton pastor, Rev. Preston Campbell officiating. Burial was in New Community Cemetery in Adgateville.

Willie Joe Driskell was born September 19, 1943 to the late Mattie Pearl LaVaughn Driskell and Joseph Driskell.

He attended Jasper County Training School. Later, Joe met the love of his life, Hattie Kate Standifer. They united in matrimony August 28, 1965, for 47 years. To this union, two children were born, Eleanor and Janet. At the beginning of his carer, he was a welder for Sportscraft Home Manufacturer in Gray. Joe rounded out his career at Georgia-Pacific as a millwright with over 30 years of service.

He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was also known to many as “Uncle Joe.”

He was preceded in death by five siblings, Harrison Dean Driskell, Willie James Driskell, Ulysses Driskell, Mary Driskell, and Sara Joe Cash; two brothers-in-law, Larry Hardwick, and Willie Frank Williams, and a special cousin/sister, Cora Carter.

He leaves to cherish in loving memories, daughters, Eleanor (Steve) Battle of Monticello, Janet (Ulysses) Smith of Fayetteville, N.C>, and Stacey Johnson of Macon; three grandchildren, Trimaine Battle, Desmon Battle, and Jameria Blain; two great-grandchildren, Demoni Battle and Harlie Battle; two brothers, Samuel Driskell and Larry Driskell; four sisters, Mattie Mae McFarlian of Monticello, Martha Driskell of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mary Thurmon and Thelma (Ralph) Evans of Jackson; three sisters-in-law, Juanita Williams, Evelyn Driskell and Sally Ann Driskell; two brothers-in-law, Ray Standifer and Roy Standifer; a caregiver, Sue Kemp, and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and friends.

Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
