Commission Agrees To CDBG Grant Negotiation

The Jasper County Commissioners Thursday agreed to have representatives of JMA Architecture meet with low bidder Brannon Development Group of Atlanta, to see if they could make some adjustments to the proposed Senior Center renovation and enlargement to make it fit within budget.

Brannon Development’s bid came in nearly $100,000 over budget for the improvements to the Senior Center building through a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). The budget for the building is $598,000, and the county does not want to add its monies to the grant money. JMA representatives are to report back to the county within 30 days.

Also at Thursday’s meeting commissioners adopted a resolution allowing the Tax Commissioners to levy a Jasper County Board of Education Maintenance and Operation Millage Rate of 17.990 for the 2018 tax billing.

Commissioners also heard a report from County Manager Mike Benton that Pittman Construction is ready to begin work on Post Road, and that county paving crews are moving to the Turtle Cove area this week, and named several roads which will be affected.
