School Board Gets Update on Facilities
The Jasper County School Board last week heard an update from Perry Hyde on the renovations at Jasper County Middle School, as well as the upcoming construction of an athletic complex at Jasper County High School.
Mr. Hyde said the gym was coming along good at the middle school, and the floor should be done by July 1. He also said the bleachers were coming in the second week in July. The portable buildings were almost gone as of Tuesday’s meeting (June 19) and were to be completely gone by the end of the week. He said they had encountered some asbestos in the kitchen renovation, but were able to remove it on a weekend, not interrupting the work. He said the air had tested well everywhere. The freezers have also been installed.
For the athletic complex, the project will be put out to bid in July, with the bid opening in August. The facility is anticipated to be complete for the fall 2019 football season, and they will try to have it ready for the spring 2019 baseball season, but that is an optimistic view. Mr. Hyde has met with each coach to get input into the facility and is working with Jordan Engineering on a site plan. The construction is designed to have a very low impact on instruction.
