Jonathan Thomas Jennings

Jonathan Thomas Jennings, age 87, of Shady Dale, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2018, at Athens Regional Hospital in Athens.

J. T. Jennings was born in Mullens, W.Va., to the late Calvin Jennings and Naomi Cook Jennings.

J. T. Jennings served in the United States Marine Corps for 20 years. He served in the Korean Conflict and during the Vietnam era; his final rank was Gunnery Sergeant. He was part of the Presidential Guard of Cherry Point Military Base in Virginia and was stationed in Japan for eight years. He retired from Parris Island Military Base in South Carolina in 1971.

After retirement, he worked for the Atlanta Veterans Medical Center in Decatur, Ga. He moved to Jasper County from Atlanta over 30 years ago, making Shady Dale his home.

He is survived by his wife, Sally Reschke Jennings of Shady Dale; daughter, Julia Walton of Macon; step-children, Gail Holmes (Ramona Holloway) of Newborn, Pam (“Buzzard”) Pinkstaff of Newborn and Gary Holmes of Alabama; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sisters, Sandra Jennings of Oakland, Calif. and Azure Dawn of Boca Raton, Fla.

The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m., Sunday, July 1, 2018, at Jordan Funeral Home.
