Piedmont Graduates; JCHS Will Saturday

Piedmont Academy graduation exercises were held last Saturday in the school gymnasium, and Jasper County High School seniors are set to graduate this Saturday, May 26 at 10 a.m., at the school gymnasium. The ceremony has been moved from Rose Bowl field because of the threat of inclement weather Students will have a limited number of tickets for family and friends, and the exercise will be live-streamed into the auditorium which will allow overflow seating until it is full.

A graduation section inside today’s paper salutes those graduates who are moving onto the next step. It features ads from family and businesses, and senior photos, and much more.

Alina Jablonski will give JCHS’s valedictory address, and Madison Rae will give the salutatory address.

For Piedmont, Kevin Davis gave the valedictory address. He told his classmates to take pride in their accomplishments. He quoted Thomas Aquinas, saying “there is nothing on this earth to be prized like a true friendship.”

He quoted Colin Powell, also, saying “Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty, and persistence.”

He closed his remarks by telling his classmates to have faith and trust in God, walk the path of righteousness, and saying, Class of 2018, May God be with you.

Grayson Bradley gave the salutatory address, quoting C.S. Lewis, “Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back everything is different.” She thanked all the teachers, families and parents for their support throughout school. Miss Bradley said the school instills value and character. She talked about the different personalities in the senior class, saying they are hard working, dedicated and excelled in academics.

She quoted Proverbs 19:21, “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” She closed her remarks, saying run wild, live free, love strong.

Christy Prosser, a Piedmont alumnus, was the guest speaker, and she inspired the students talking about her adventures in life, including climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro. She told the class members to put their pones down, take time for experiences, be present in every moment. She stressed the importance of hard work, and told the students to set amazing goals.

She said take time for the simple things. “Be patient, raise the bar, never settle, and be a relentless learner,” she said. She told them to “submerse themselves in the world,” and “be the writer of your story.” Lastly she admonished the students who are about to go out in the world to “Call your mother.”

Piedmont had 30 graduates, who were presented their diplomas by Headmaster Tony Tanner and chairman of the board Hal Harris.
