Band Concert Set Monday

The Monticello Community Band will celebrate Memorial Day with a free concert on Monday, May 28, on the lawn of Thomas Persons Hall in Monticello.

The concert will begin at 7 p.m., following the raising of the flag by Post 110 of the American Legion.

Across from the football field and on the lawn of a historic school located at 319 College Street, the free concert includes musical tributes to the armed forces, patriotic marches, American folk songs and a sing-a-long.

The concert will include several special guest speakers, including Post 110 Commander Otis Clark, Alan Small, Nathan Jordan with the National Archives Atlanta, Superior Court Judge Alison Burleson, and Bobbi Sauls, Jasper County High School history teacher.

In addition to the concert, the Jasper County Historical Foundation is holding a BBQ fundraiser. Tickets, unless sold out, are available for $12 at the Chamber of Commerce and Thomas Persons Hall. Members of the community are invited to enjoy dinner on the lawn starting at 6 pm.

In the event of rain, the concert will be held in the Monticello Baptist Church sanctuary.
