Robert Clayton Harden, Sr.
Robert Clayton Harden, Sr., age 93, passed away Sunday, April 29, 2018, at The Retreat Nursing Home.
“Bob” Harden was born in Dalton, Ga. to the late Cecil Glenn Harden and Ester Mae Wills Harden. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy “Dot” Owenby Harden; step-son, Frank McCart; and two brothers and four sisters.
Bob Harden graduated from the University of Georgia with a BA in Journalism in 1948. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
He lived in Lithonia before moving to Monticello over 40 years ago. He retired as Zoning Administrator for Jasper County after serving 15 years; and in sales and public relations from Gibson Greeting Cards.
He was a member of the Jasper County Kiwanis and Shriners in Macon; and Prospect United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his children, Robert C. (Alla) Harden, Jr. of Lawrenceville, Debbie (Robert) Baker of Dalton, Kevin Harden of Monticello, Linda (Warren) James of Sparta and Terry (Jean) McCart of Monroe; grandchildren, Christie James, Micheal James, Bo Harden, Eliza Whiteman, Austin Baker and Isabella Harden; great-grandchildren, Tommy Marshall, Jonathan James, Robert James, Jennifer James, Ava Whiteman, Eathan Whiteman, Cara Whiteman, Dylan Whiteman, Sam Baker and Lily Baker; great-great-grandchildren, T. J. Marshall, Christopher Marshall and Arinna Marshall; and sister, Mildred Harden Ayers of Atlanta.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 5, 2018, at the chapel of Jordan Funeral Home. Rev. C. Layne Jenkins will officiate. A private interment will be held at a later date.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Friday, May 4, 2018, at Jordan Funeral Home.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to Al Sihah Shrine Temple 222 Mecca Drive, Macon, Ga. 31206.
