Market Opens May 5

The annual Market on The Square is less than two weeks away. The 2018 season begins Saturday, May 5 and ends September 29 and is sponsored by the Monticello-Jasper County Chamber of Commerce. The market is open each Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon.

The Chamber of Commerce is a member of Georgia Grown and the Georgia Farmer’s Market Association. This year the market received a grant from Ag South supporting local Farmer’s Markets to “Think OutsideThe Store.” Local and Georgia grown fruits and vegetables are encouraged, welcomed, and promoted.

Fresh vegetables, fruits, eggs, baked goods, and canned goods will be abundant each week. Crops will vary from week to week and some vendors attend only when their crop is in season (watermelon, corn, and cantaloupe). Shop with vendors throughout the season selling Georgia Grown® produce such as tomatoes, peppers, beans, squash, eggplant, watermelon, corn, cantaloupe, strawberries, peaches, and okra.

Market favorites will be on hand too: homemade pies, chow-chow, vinaigrettes, canned vegetables and jellies, pork skins, boiled peanuts, and herbs. Goat milk products and cheese, honey, and all natural products are available too. Many local artisans will have their handmade items for sale along with their market crops!

Several activities and musical entertainment are scheduled throughout the season.

Interested in being a vendor or providing entertainment? Contact the Chamber of Commerce at 706-468-8994 or stop by the office at 119 West Washington Street, Monticello, Ga. Registration forms can be downloaded on the website and Facebook page.
