Diamond Cougars Defeat Windsor
Piedmont Academy’s varsity baseball team returned to the field Tuesday following spring break and posted an impressive home region win against Windsor Academy.
The Diamond Cougars posted a 9-0 victory and showed not sluggish aftermath from a several day layoff.
“It was a big region win,” said coach Wes Tanner. “It was a good performance coming off spring break.”
Piedmont got a solid pitching performance from Sam Wright who worked 6.2 innings. Owen Brady closed the contest.
Offensively, Wright had a productive day at the plate as did Caleb Coffey.
“Our bats are starting to come around,” Tanner said. “We are approaching our at bats with a plan and going to the plate with a purpose. When we do that it really helps. Our players are stepping to the plate knowing what they have to do.”
Tuesday’s victory improved the Cougars to 8-3-1 but more importantly 5-1 in region play.
Piedmont will host Thomas Jefferson today at 4:30 p.m. in a key region contest. The game will go a long way in determining the region champion for 2018. The Jaguars held on for a 1-0 win against the Cougars earlier this season.
“We need to avenge this one,” Tanner said.
Piedmont Academy’s junior varsity baseball team also defeated Windsor 5-0 on Tuesday.
